OOTD: Getting Snowy Chic and a SUPER Haul

I just used this post as an introduction to the Skorch blog. As my followers know, I believe you can find fashion anywhere. I believe you can shop in all kinds of stores to find something that suits who you are. You will find I shop the major stores on & offline but also don't overlook men's stores & consignment (thrift stores).

As my first OOTD for Skorch, I had expected to do something more glamorous and chic, but as the east coast is covered in about 4 ft of snow (in some locations more than that) I decided to work with what I had. Since today was the first day out of the house after 5 days of captivity, I went shopping. So instead of snow boots, I wore my walking sneaks, as I knew I would have alot of ground to cover. Although its not fancy, I still felt rather pretty all day, maybe even turned a few heads.

Outfit Breakdown:
Winter Coat: Thrifted
Gray Top: Torrid
Pink Tank: Wal-Mart
Jeans: Wal-Mart
Shoes: Nike Shox (don't remember where I purchased)
Hat: Burlington Coat Factory

Also, as you can see… I went with pink make-up (yet again). The best part about today is I am wearing a combination of pink and burgundy mascara. Not to mention a new pink liquid liner. Just what I needed after days of being stuck in the house with nothing on but sweats and t-shirts.

As I stated, I went shopping. See below my hauls from Torrid and New York & Company (great sale... buy one pant, get one free). We also bought some very hot items from Buckle for hubby. I will post him in his outfits one day soon, SMOKING HOT!!!!

Torrid Haul:
Red Sweater
Black Sweater
White Sweater
Teal Sweater
Red Belt
Curvy Jeans (known to the rest of the world as skinny jeans)

New York & Company Haul:
Black Flare City Pants
Light Gray Flare City Pants

Snowmageddon and Relaxed DOTD and Hauls...

If you live anywhere on the east coast, there is a likelyhood you are dealing with the same things I have been dealing with. I have spent about 5 days in the house, being held hostage by the near 3 ft of snow that covered the Baltimore/DC Metro area. I have never seen so much snow, and would be totally happy to not see snow EVER again. Worse of all, I was allowing it to totally take over who I was. I was allowing it to depress me. On Sunday (after 3 days of captivity), I decided to make-up my girls faces to lift mine and their spirits.

Aren't they precious? I mean, without makeup they're gorgeous, but with makeup they felt so so beautiful. Which of course made my day better. Monday, was the hardest day EVER. I cried alot. Not only because of the snow, but because of things in my life in which I was not in control of. So I tried to get it together but couldn't. My husband in the moment of my nervous breakdown, snuck out of the house. I thought he was going out to get a break from all my whining. Instead, he went to get my favorite comfort food (Utz Salt & Vinegar & Diet Pepsi). Just when I think I can't love him anymore, he pulls a stunt like that. So, I calmed down and realized that life was not going to get better with me feeling sorry for myself. So I fell asleep thinking about... what else... clothes...

So I decided that when all this snow was over I would have many outfits that I could play with, just using the items in my closet. Many color schemes came to mind. Green & Fuschia, Yellow & Gray, Purple & Red... and many many more. So this morning, I woke up and decided to scrub myself up and get pretty. Even if it was only to hang around the house. So I went with my first color scheme: Kelly green & Fuschia. I really liked putting the two colors together in my makeup, my husband even dolled himself up a bit too.

Today... was a much better day. Some things I bought online arrived and my husband and I did some shopping. Below are the pictures of my haul:

Blue shirt: Curve Appeal
Purple Dress: Fatshionista Sales Post
Tye Dye Dress: Fatshionista Sales Post
Hard Candy Make-up: Wal-Mart

L to R: Venus Mascara (Purple), Fuschia Liquid Liner, Lucky Liquid Liner, Late Night Mascara (Green), & Punk Mascara (Pink)

DOTD: Finally

All this week, I have either had the makeup together or the outfit. I have not been feeling my best this week, so it was an effort at best to get myself together. But working from home yesterday, allowed me the opportunity to rest and to reserve my strength to be able to come back full force today. I knew I was going to be in meeting after meeting after meeting. So I knew I had to bring my A+ game. So this is what I came up with. Red is such a power color... LOVE IT!!!!

As always... OPINIONS!!!

P.S. My mascara today is burgundy... OMG!!! I KNOW!!!!! LOVE IT AGAIN!!!!

Deep Thought #3: The Men in my life

So I really think that some of my readers may think I’m a bit shallow. All I ever do is post pictures of me and my outfits. So I decided to write something to give you a little more insight to who I am. I am married. To a wonderful Hispanic man, Miguel, and his picture will pop up here from time to time. We’ve been married for 7 years in June. So, he is not working currently, but he's doing what he can. When people talk about the economy I can honestly say that in 2009, I saw just how bad the economy was. My husband’s business fell to almost NOTHING, and I was unemployed the beginning part of last year. So the wonderful things that have started to happen this year are us being blessed for our perseverance and diligence.

Sidebar: If you live in the MD/DC/VA & lower PA area… my husband is a home improvement/painter who does great work. Contact me here for his info…

So since my husband hasn’t been working, I have had the joy of seeing what a REAL GOOD MAN looks like. He gets up with me each morning to fix me tea (or the occasional coffee) and breakfast (if time permits). He carries my bags to my car and kisses me goodbye. He sends me a text message as I drive to work telling me to have a good day. Usually about the time I arrive to work, he sends another message to tell me I’m beautiful and sexy (even on the days where I don’t feel as such). Around 10 or 11 am he sends me message to remind me to take my pill (not birth control). Then sometime between 12 & 2pm he sends another message to make sure I haven’t forgotten to eat lunch (because he knows I will go all day and FORGET to eat). He calls me throughout the day to check on me and to say loving things. At first, because I wasn’t used to this… it was a bit annoying. But now I see… its love. This is a man who loves me… And his love makes it easier for me to do what I do. I was recently promoted, and it was in part due to this beautiful man. He is supporting me and our family in an unconventional way so that I can better provide for all of us. He makes sure the kids get to school, and on the days I work late, he makes sure they are fed and bathed. To be honest, I haven’t supervised a bath in months. This is a GREAT man…

Another man in my life is my father. This past weekend, after the snow, I went to leave my house and found my brakes were on their last leg. They had ground down to the wick and were making that horrible grinding sound. My account was not in a financial situation to support a repair. My first day at my new position was Monday. I had a mechanic on speed dial and he told me he could do it on Sunday if I bought the parts and he would do it all 4 wheels for $100. I had nowhere to turn. I called Dad, he was at church. He told me he could come by after church. So long story short, my father came to the auto store, purchased the parts, then hung around while the mechanic worked, and paid for the job. I will repay him. But he didn’t once make a big deal about having to help me at the last minute. Nor did he ask me why my husband wasn’t working. He just did what he could… by being the best father EVER.

The last but not least, of the men in my life is my brother. He hasn’t been having a lot of luck in the employment or finance area lately, but he is still a good man. I love him. I know sometimes he thinks that is not the case, but I do… WHOLEHEARTEDLY. Some of the best times are when he pulls me in for those occasional hugs, that make me feel so tiny next to his height and frame… but in those hugs… I feel so much love. This brother of mine does something for me that he probably doesn’t even know he’s doing. He’s a friend to my husband. My husband is introverted and doesn’t have many people he trusts or befriends. But my brother and he hang out occasionally. And when my husband returns, he is so much happier (hahahaha… inside joke). But that friendship he offers to my husband makes him a much better man than he gives himself credit for…

Also, my brother is the only person I know who makes fat jokes that crack me up. Cause, is it actually possible to tell a joke with sarcasm? HILARIOUS!!!

Now here is another person who will someday make his way on this list. My son, Malik, he is not a man but someday he will grow to be a good man (if I don’t kill him during these difficult teenage years… YIKES!!). But I also love him as much as the other men above. I know he would kill anyone who tried to harm any of the women of his family. He has a heart of gold, and when he becomes an adult, he will make a great husband, brother, and father.

Picture Above: my son with his sisters (both in green) and his cousin

So if you have any men in your life who are like the wonderful men in mine… hug them, kiss them, and tell them you love them. They may need to hear it more than you know.

OOTD + MOTD...

I will be the first to admit... that I did not put my usual love and devotion into my makeup today. I was tired and overly excited about starting the day. And when I saw that this makeup wasn't what I was going for... I just kept adding to the problem... lol... it really needs something dark in the crease... but at that point I was like... WHATEVER...
I did like the pearls with the jeans. My outfit is trying to say... "I'm only wearing jeans because there is snow outside... but don't the pearls class it up a bit?"

Opinions???

Also, I want to take a minute to thank my followers. I will be doing some more indepth posts soon. Today (nor this weekend) was not the day. ~besitos~

Also... since no foot action is available... boots look like this...
