DOTD/Review: Slone Maxi from Lucie Lu

This month Lucie Lu sent me this dress from her new dress collection. I loved it online but when it arrived I had second thoughts. I had seconds thought all the way until the moment I put it on this morning. I think it’s because of the bra I tried it on with. So yesterday when I wore it I decided to wear it with a strapless bra because I felt like it was a better look. I wore the straps today but I will be honest that it will be my first, last, and only time wearing the straps not tucked in. I’ll probably wear it strapless going forward. So here is the review breakdown…

The Fit: I went down a size with this dress and it was a bit snug in the breast but I wear a size 44G so I don’t blame the dress, I blame my humungous boobies. I still love the fit everywhere else.

The Fabric: I love love love how this dress was made. The fabric is thin enough to be cool in summer, but thick enough that you know its nicely made. It’s also perfectly flowy too.

The Color: Perfection!! I am on a orange/coral crush right now so you know…I love this color!!!

The Length: It’s a maxi but because I’m on the “tall” side… I wish it was just a smidgen longer.

The Overall Dress: Excellent Maxi addition to my wardrobe that is original in style and shape. If you want a maxi that you know you won’t see on everyone else… this is the maxi you want!

So I have to say this again… if you haven’t tried Lucie Lu… You are missing out… She has so many dresses I desperately want right now. She’s affordable, on trend, and has quality garments… You see I wear mine over and over and over. BTW… I also have this dress in the purple (are you even surprised?)

Lo Quiero Ahora: Wedding Edition #1

Are you attending a wedding anytime in the next few months? Or are you attending an event that you know you will need to be a bit more formal then normal... wouldn't one of these dresses from Lucie Lu make everyone at the event stop where they are standing? I am feeling these dresses and others because I have many Lucie Lu dresses and the fit and look never disappoint.

~ my personal favorite~

Bastille Dress
This maxi was thrown in because you can ALWAYS dress up a maxi for a wedding

What do you think of my choices? Would you wear any of these to a wedding or any other dressy function?

Lo Quiero Ahora: Happy Independence Day

Thought I would do a wish-list post with items that would be patriotic to the ring of Red/White/Blue.

Allegra Dress from Lucie Lu
~This would be patriotic with a navy cardigan, white belt and white sandals. Or just a great addition to my wardrobe because I need a red dress… lol

Long beaded caftan dress from eShakti
~ I love this maxi because it looks patriotic all on its own

Spaghetti Strap Paisley Printed Maxi Dress iconfrom Ashley Stewart
~ And if I add a red cardigan and sandals, this is perfectly retro and ready for July 4th

Sperry Top-Sider Paloma (Navy/Red Dots) from Zappos
~ This has all the nations colors included… what’s not to love?!

Torrid Denim - White Cropped Denim from Torrid
~ I don’t usually wear white pants… but this year I said I would get one pair and try it out. These would be a nice start and a cute way to creat my own red/white/blue outfit.

So what are you wearing today? Are you being patriotic? If so, feel free to leave a link to your patriotic look…

FFFWeek: Shopping With Friends

I missed the shopping soiree that was hosted by Marie Denee. As did my other 2 of my other roommates. So we went to Brooklyn on our own. Because a trip into NY is not a trip if you don’t venture into re/dress nyc… before I left for New York Lucie Lu sent me this dress to wear during my events. I felt like it was the perfect dress to wear during my city travels.

We left our hotel and first had some breakfast at a diner up the street from our hotel called Tick Tock Diner NY. We went because Karen from Curvy Canadian has a thing for diners. I must admit… I really enjoyed myself. I ordered french toast with bananas… yummmooooo!!!

During the weekend we called Karen, Snow White. Because she’s pale and she would wear red lips and is beautiful like a princess… Don’t you agree…

We got the waiter to take our picture Karen, Sarah (QueenSized Flava), and myself.

We took the subway to Brooklyn… what is funny is it seemed like every time we got ready to take a subway there was drama. We were trying to buy tickets and then this guy tells another guy from India he needs to go back to his country. It was bad because it was clearly a racist comment… but the man who said it also had an accent. As though English was not his first language. So after this incident, we of course remembered him because it was rather irrational that he would tell someone to return to their country. Now the line to buy tickets was ridiculously long. Well, imagine our surprise when “Señor Racist” comes and jumps in front of us in line by saying the guy at the window was his cousin. Did I forget to mention that it was 1000º in the subway and we were sweating and stifled? The guy in line behind us about lost it and I thought there was going to be a fight in the subway. But Señor Racist was all bark and no bite… but the guy in line behind us was a step away from stomping him into the dirt… lmao. Anyway we got on our train and headed to the greatest shopping destination.

I think we were in the shop for hours and hours. But it was amazing. We ended staying until an event they were hosting at 6pm. It was a preview of Sweetooth Couture because they would be walking the runway during the finale. I wasn’t sure it was my style… but what the hell. I love her. I want everything she makes now. I also saw two ladies that I remember from Fashionista! on livejournal and I’m just sick that the photo came out so blurry

Sarah and Rachel, the designer of Sweetooth Couture, were fighting over this skirt… it was going to debut at the finale event and we wanted it then. I ordered one though!!

Amelia: A Dress for Ladies Who Brunch…

The name of the dress is Amelia and while I wore this dress, I felt like all I needed was a Mother’s Day Brunch to make the look complete.

The original look I really wanted to achieve didn’t happen because the pieces didn’t cooperate (such as the flower & belt), but I feel like the dress speaks for it self. Lucie Lu sent me this dress to review and they have such great items that it was hard to wait for it to be uploaded to the website before I could wear it. The top is made of a t-shirt material that is soft and comfortable against the skin. The bottom of the dress is lace with a black underskirt (not sure of the fabric but it is also soft and breathable). So here is the “official” review…

Pros:

    1. The bottom is made of lace (LACE people!!!). If you’ve been to my blog more than once, you know how I feel about lace. It’s like the fabric of my life (not cotton).
    2. It’s silver/gray/black. Which makes it great base to do anything with. It means I can add any shoe, blazer/sweater, or flower and still the outfit is amazing.
    3. The shoulder applique makes takes it up a notch and keeps it from being boring and gives you something to offset the lace.

Cons:

    1. Ummmm…. thinking…. ummm… oh… due to my unexpected weight loss, it’s a size too big.
